Introducing Diego

diego

Diego came as one of the dogs from California – he’s 2 years old and is very human focused – he was in the shelter there since October and arrived here in February – so he was in the shelter there for a long time – he was an owner surrender and we don’t know know why he was surrendered.

He is house trained and very sweet but is dog selective. Some dogs he loves, some he doesn’t. He has not been tested with cats or children. Diego loves to be held and cuddled. He would be very happy if he had someone’s lap to sit in just about all the time – he also likes to cuddle in the bed all the time and sleeps on his foster mom’s pillow.

Diego is very small – he is under 10 pounds. He has some issues around collars and he doesn’t walk well on a leash, he just freezes up, but he loves to be carried around.

Introducing Dillon

Dillon

Dillon is an approximately 2 year old Chihuahua who weighs in at 14 lbs. He will chase cats and is scared of large dogs, but is ok with smaller ones. He will not go to a home with young children as he has fear aggression issues.

Dillon will need a home who understands his fears and is willing to work with him on them. He likes to go on walks, and will go down stairs, but not up them! He is house trained, but will mark his territory when he first arrives.

Are you the kind, understanding a patient person that can give Dillon the love he needs?

Introducing Spike

spike

Spike is a sweet intelligent 6 month old long haired chihuahua/pom. He is a ball of energy whose curious antics keep us laughing. He spends his days playing with toys and loves his daily walks. He will play with you or will entertain himself, but he does like to be with his peeps. He starts the night tucked in our bed and then likes to go to his crate in our room so he can rest comfortably in his own space. He travels well in the car and has not met a peep, pup or kitty he does not like. Spike is currently working on his toilet training in his new home and is responding well. Prepare to turn to jelly when he wraps his little spotted paws around your neck and proceeds to kiss your face all over. Spike loves to “use his voice” so apartment dwelling is not for him. Although he likes children he can only share his home with children over 12 due to his 3 kg size. Spike is neutered, micro chipped, needled and ready to go to his forever home.

Introducing Matty – Adopted

Matty

Matty is a 6 month old boy who just a wonderful kitty! He was found on a doorstep, he was freezing cold and very thin. Matty was taken in by a volunteer and has been given lots of yummy food to help him grow and is now a healthy boy. He is currently being fostered with a small dog and loves to play with her. He can be a bit shy upon meeting but he warms up very quickly. Matty is litter box trained, has had his boosters and is also neutered. Matty’s adoption fee is $50.00. If you think you could be Matty’s forever home, please email: sclare@eastlink.ca.

Introducing Simba – Adopted

Simba
Simba is a sweet little seven year old Pomeranian. He is excellent with dogs and cats and great around people as well, although he is sometimes shy when meeting someone new.

Simba is well-behaved in the house and LOVES his crate. He naps in a crate (with the door open) all the time in his foster house. He even runs into his crate to watch from a safe spot when someone enters the house and the rest of the dogs all run to the door. Like many Pomeranians, Simba likes to bark when he is excited. He comes when called and can sit and shake a paw on command.

Simba is not used to being brushed and is learning to overcome his fear of grooming in his foster home. Although he has NOT bitten that we know of, he easily could unless his new family continues to GENTLY work on grooming him a little bit every day. Being a Pomeranian, this task cannot be avoided and will be absolutely necessary on a constant basis. Knotted fur hurts!

Although we believe Simba is house trained in a basic sense, he has been ‘marking’ every now and again in his foster home. He was neutered very recently and had been living with other intact dogs before coming into care, so we believe that the marking will disappear over the next month as his hormones dissipate.

Simba is a quirky, interactive, cuddly dog who will bring joy to the right family.

Introducing Lily – Adoption Pending

Lily is a 3.5 year old Shih Tzu. Lily has severe allergies and will need to be on a limited ingredient food for life. On the recommendation of her groomer (Edward Scissorhounds), who also has an allergy baby, we are trying her on Instinct by Nature’s Variety. We are also using a water/peroxide/vinegar solution to hopefully kill the yeast on her skin. The final tool in our arsenal for helping Lily, is whipped coconut oil for her dry spots.

Right now her skin looks like a bad sunburn and her hair is very thin. With any luck the change in diet, the yeast buster solution and the coconut oil will make this little girl more comfortable. Lily has a sweet personality and loves everyone. Hopefully her skin will match her nature soon.

Introducing Xavier – Adopted

He's a tired boy. He spent 6+ hours in the car and then 2 hours running up and down the road.

He’s a tired boy. He spent 6+ hours in the car and then 2 hours running up and down the road.

Xavier is a 5 year old Sheltie. He came to ASDR a month after he was picked up by Animal Control as a stray. He was so matted that he had to be shaved. He has been in foster for less than a week but we have learned a few things about him. He loves to snuggle and be brushed. He’s very quiet and rarely barks. He can hold his water better than any camel and is clean in the house. He does very well in the car and will lie or sit in the seat without jumping all over the place.

Although Xavier is being fostered with 9 other dogs, he rarely interacts with them. If he is not sitting in front of his foster mom or dad looking for some affection, he is snuggled on his mattress in front of the fire.

Xavier is neutered and up to date on his vaccines as well as microchipped. He was excellent with our vet, who thinks he has had chronic ear and feet infections. Although not known for sure, food allergies may be the culprit. Xavier is on antibiotics and is on a corn and wheat free diet.

Since he does have a history of running, and he can get out of just about an collar, it is recommended that he never be off leash when outside, unless in a fenced area, and that a halter be used.

Xavier will snap if he is hurt (i.e. his feet bleed and you touch them) or if you lean into his face when he is resting. For this reason he will not be adopted to a family with small children.

More information will be posted about this beautiful boy as we learn his personality.

Introducing Bear – Adopted

Bear

ASDR has the pleasure to introduce you to Bear! He is a 12 week old, Shepherd/Rotti mix puppy who is very interested in life and the entire world! Bear is a bundle of fun and energy and loves to play with anyone who will play with him! Bear is very friendly and loveable, but due to his growing size, will not be placed in a home with children younger than the age of 12. He is crate trained and learning to be house trained too. He does well on a leash and is very good in the car. Bear is going to be a very big boy when he is full grown. He will need obedience training. Bear is being fostered with big and small dogs and cats. While he is very friendly with all of them, it is not advisable to be adopted into a home with very small dogs as he likes to play with everyone and he doesn’t realize the size of his big paws, same with the cats. Bear will do best in a home where someone can spend alot of outside time and play time with him. While he is crate trained, he should also not spend his days in a crate waiting for his family to come home. He has to much energy for that and will not learn as he should. Bear is a wonderful, goofy puppy and is waiting for his forever home.

Introducing Connor – Adopted

Connor
Connor is a 4 year old Shih Tzu mix. He is a happy and energetic dog. He loves to cuddle on the coach or sleep in the bed with you. He loves to go for walks and car rides. He gets along great with other dogs and cats. Connor is good with kids and strangers. Connor is house trained and does not chew on anything. He will make a perfect pet for either an active family or a movie watching kind of family. Although his appearance may look like he is not athletic he is quite a jumper and runner. He would do great in agility or for someone who likes to hike.

Connor does not like to be pushed or grabbed but is very obedient and will do as you ask. He has a lot to say and lets you know what he likes and what he doesn’t.
