Adopt

The first step in adopting your new best friend is to fill out our Application Form. This goes to our application committee who will contact your references, including your Veterinarian reference. The committee will also arrange a home visit where one of our volunteers will come to your house to meet you and your family. The home visit will only take about 1/2 hour and gives us a better idea of how the the requested dog will live once adopted. The reference checks and home visit information then goes to our board for review. If accepted, the foster family will contact you to arrange a meet and greet before the final contract is signed.

Once you have completed your application, you can send it to applications@asdrescue.com

    • Jake is being fostered with two other dogs. There are no cats in the house but he’s very laid back and I don’t think cats would be a problem.

  1. Hi, this is Hannah’s Mom. We have recently relocated to Halifax and we are currently searching for a place to call home. We will be adopting a dog when we are settled in our new home and would love it if Salty could be that dog. We are wondering what are the chances that Salty will still be available or that we could make arrangements to adopt him as soon as we are settled?

    • Hi Hannah’s mom. I can’t guarantee that Salty will be available when you get settled but keep checking our website. If he is still listed then I encourage you to submit an application :)

  2. Do you have any further information on Jake? good with dogs? cats? Would love to add min schnauzer to our family! Thanks.

  3. Hi, just wondering about Hampton….did alot of research on Danes and there needs recently and have always wanted to adopt one from rescue. We have 3 kids and another dog ( whom we rescued or rescued us ) that is a year old in April and would love to have a play mate. Where is he from and why was he brought into rescue? How long do you have them before they are available for adoption. Has he been around children before?
    thanks

  4. I am looking for a small, short haired dog about 20 -25 lbs.My last dog a mix with Duckteiller died last Aug. at the age of 18 yrs 3 weeksHope you can help.

  5. Hi there. I have been unable to email you successfully. I filled out a fully completed application form and tried through your site as well as through my google account. I am soooooooooo interested in Cinnamon, can you please let me know if you received anything from me. I will fax or just plain drive down to meet him. Please let me know how I can contact you. It’s just that it is love at first site.

    • Sorry about the question of Cinnamon’s sex but on your original site it showed as a he. Now Cinn is listed as a she. It really does not matter at all. Just want you to know why the confusion. Oh and one very, very important, how long does the adoption process take??

  6. I was looking at the site yesterday and I’m very interested in the labradoodle that was on there. Has this dog been spoken for?

    Thanks,
    Megan

  7. Hello
I was wondering if Pip was still available? I emailed you from Kijiji and I would like to fill out the application but I am having a hard time getting it to print. I would like to set up a home visit.

  8. Hi, I met a couple lovely young ladies from this organization in Hampton, Nova Scotia today (Tues, Oct 2), and I expected to find dogs online for fostering. I was only able to find dogs available for adoption. Do you have a section of your site that deals with fostering? I wasn’t able to find anything.
    Thank you.
    Heather

    • Hi Heather,

We don’t post the dogs that need fostering on our website. We do have a foster application under volunteering :)

  9. Hi, I’m interested in Ollie. How is he with following off leash, house broken and riding in cars? Is he very aggressive with other dogs? I have a female chi, 4 years and a cat. How would he do in that environment? Is he located in Halifax?

  10. Hi ASDR. I have questions about some of the dogs and compatibility etc. Is there an email or number I can call to speak with someone about these issues? Thanks so much.

  11. I sent an email about one of the dogs listed so maybe you will have answered this there, but I am trying to find a small dog for my parents who live in rural NL. That being said, a home visit etc for me would be fine and I have 2 rescued beagles… but how would the home visit work for my parents who will have the dog once I travel home in December? (no, I won’t be springing it on them on dec 25 and there is just myself and my mom & dad there so no huge over-excitement at holiday time).

    • Hi Bonita. We do have connections in NL who can do home visits for us. I encourage your parents to submit an application and we can go from there.

  12. Hi,

Just curious if Gideon is comfortable around cats? We have an adopted cat that’s about 4 years old now but have been considering adopting a dog as well. He looks so sweet!

  13. Hi, Just saw that gideon became available again, we sent an application october 31 but it we were told that he had a lot of applications. Do we have to apply again or do you just go to the next application that offered to abopt him?

    thanks

  14. I know we commented on Yvette quite some time ago, I just want you to know that we are still interested. One of our family members was maybe going to have to give up their dog and we were going to take her in if that was the case and was just making sure that she still had a home before we adopted another dog.

  15. Hi,…just wondering if Winston is still available,…I have a shih-tzu now, whom is absolutely adored by me and my 2 kids…and I have a few questions about this little cutie.
    Thanks, Loriann

  16. Hello,

I think I’m in love with Stanley, he looks so much like my miniture schnauzer Winston who desperately needs a friend. He also sounds like he has the same personality so I think they’d be an interesting little duo. Do you think he’d be good with another dog and an almost 4 year old boy?

    Bryna

  17. I am trying to find out what kind of dogs you brought up from the U.S. I would be interested in adopting a dog if I can find one suitable for my situation.
    I would appreciate a reply,
    Thank You
    Barry

    • Hi Barry. ASDR received Chihuahua mixes. Most of them already have adoptions pending. East Coast German Shepherd Rescue, Homeward Bound and Maritime Pit Project also received dogs. You would need to go to their websites to view the available dogs.

  18. we have been trying for Savanah for some time now and put our application in but have heard nothing

    Bernadette Dawson

    • Hello Nikki – yes, Cookie is still available for adoption. Our applications can be found on our website. Sandra, ASDR
